About photographic workshops, courses and guided photo tours in Italy by Camera Etrusca.

CAMERA ETRUSCA is an adventure photographic workshop led by professional photographer Patrick Nicholas – off the beaten track in Italy, roving over Tuscany, Latium and Umbria, with all the advantages that the lively and supremely picturesque city of Orvieto offers. Follow Patrick on a brief ramble through Orvieto in spring 2024 (below).

CAMERA ETRUSCA is based in Orvieto. You won’t  find yourself staying in a remote spot, but in a lively town full of restaurants and cafés, good shopping and two markets a week.  Orvieto hosts several major festivals throughout the year and you’ll often find live music and dancing in both the summer and winter.

We take you out to the surrounding beauties of  Tuscany and Umbria every day so you won’t need a car, but if you fancy a trip to Rome at the beginning or the end of the workshop it’s only s bit over an hour away by train.

Our photography courses cater for every level of experience from absolute beginners to professional photographers wishing to expand their horizons. So what will you learn? Your tutor is a professional photographer with years of teaching experience  and is happy to take you through the basics, such as how to operate your camera on manual settings; which default settings to change; the creative use of depth of field; portraiture; landscape photography, composition and exposure. For the more advanced, we teach the use of filters; in the field lighting techniques; post production in Photoshop and Lightroom, and more. Our aim is to encourage photographers of all levels and ability to create mood.

Everyone will have the opportunity of returning home with a fine art print on watercolour paper of an image of theirs, created during the workshop. But it’s not just about photography. You will find yourself in Tuscany and Umbria, an area of outstanding beauty that is the cradle of Western Art and European civilisation. Director and Course Leader is professional photographer Patrick Nicholas. Originally from Oxford, he has a degree in photography from London, and has lived and worked in Italy since 1985.  He worked for many years in Advertising, Fashion and Portrait photography, the infuence of which you can see in his fine-art photography. Patrick Nicholas founded Camera Etrusca in 1999 and he has never once cancelled a photography workshop.
